Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charleston-North by IHG

We had a queen suite booked but that room smelled like dog, so we tried to move and none of the same type room was available. The person running the desk offered a discount for a connecting room which we took because we had to get to the purpose for our stay (the coliseum). No manager was available so I planned to ask about the situation in the morning. Adjoining rooms were clean and well appointed. Kids didn’t get to use pool but they said fitness room was a little small. It’s not made for three people to work out on the same equipment at the same time, but it does have the basics which is helpful. Jan keeps breakfast well stocked and fresh. She’s Southern hospitality and sunshine. Oh, and the pancake machine was broken but I was a little grateful as I enjoyed one of their fantastic cinnamon rolls. The coffee is good which is always important to us. I personally would like more sweetener options. After I ate I was able to talk to the manager, Tommy, who immediately comped the extra room and was very nice, as was all his staff who we encountered. This hotel is so close to the hospital and Charleston Southern U. It’s convenient to everywhere we wanted to go (just jumping on the highway nearby). I was unable to find a Hilton in our app with as good a review, Marriott isn’t any better, so this hotel is definitely a great little hidden gem.

Mr. Don welcomed us with anticipation and warmth. He started our great experience! As soon as I opened the door to our room, the smell of cleanliness and hard work from Housekeeping staff is evident. In and out of our room is spotless clean. Breakfast area is well maintained. We were so pleased as it opened earlier than expected. It was such a blessing since we had to leave to early, we were able to eat before leaving for our event. Upon check out, Ms Jean is very accommodating, courteous and made me feel at home. You have a fantastic staffing! Thank you to Ms Stacy and her team for keeping this hotel almost perfect. The only things that would need attention are the toilet paper holder in our bathroom, the telephone is not working, and AC is loud.

Great stay! Rooms were clean and smelled clean. The staff were great. The breakfast was great. The overall appearance of the hotel was clean, neat, and inviting.

Sarah and Jeannie (hoping I spelled both right) were so helpful in making our stay great. We were originally placed in a room with an adjoining door through which you could hear everything, and they gave us a complimentary upgrade to a suite. They even held our luggage in their private office while we were out for the day and our new room was being turned over. Would definitely stay here again!

We were very happy with this hotel. Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Had lots of storage space. Great water pressure. Friendly staff at front desk. No complaints on the hotel at all. The only issue is it’s about 25-30mins to downtown Charleston if you’re wanting to be downtown mostly.

I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. The room was clean, housekeeping honored all requests. The breakfast was good and the staff made it worthwhile. Sarah, Abby and Ralph at the front desk were amazing. I’d stay there again every time. My only complaint was the TV is not a smart TV. However the rest of my stay was amazing.

Excellent amenities for the price, far superior to a more expensive Hilton Spark location we stayed at the previous night. Comfortable bed, well appointed accessible bathroom, friendly helpful staff.

So, I had a hiccup with my reservation coming over from Booking.com/Southwest where it was lost in the system. However the concierge on duty, Don, went the extra mile for us. He got us into a good-enough room for the evening, then he located our other reservation and moved us to a different room that was what we had initially requested. He facilitated getting us moved over, settled back in, and did so with a very can-do, cordial and caring spirit. This kind of customer service is a lost and dying art - thank you Don for your help! Breakfast here is quite good. Buffet style, pretty quick to get items refreshed. Lobby coffee is great, fresh ground, 24 hours. Only disappointments were the pool, which was not clean enough to make me want to swim there, and the elevators which sound like they really need to be serviced. One was shaking badly - disconcerting. Overall, this is a great little hotel - close to the NNPTC if you're considering visiting your sailor at school. It's off the path a bit, close to a couple restaurants with a convenience store just next door. I've stayed there twice and it will be my go-to if I get back to Charleston.
